You have to be aware of your limits. A crew has to know if they are able to sail 45-knot winds with a 300 m2 spinnaker. Only because the crew of the “illbruck” was conscious of their limits were they able to cross the finish in the Volvo Ocean Race.
A company has to know if its financial means for expansion are sufficient and if its employees are able to continue growing dynamically. Those who overestimate their capabilities quickly overshoot their target.
Rushing head on into things is easy. Knowing when to say “no” when the urge to advance would push one over the limits is much more difficult.
