Damping
Damping of partitions and other structures is a matter of dissipating given amounts of vibration energy of acoustic or mechanical origin. Little or no damping on partitions will result in noise emissions on vibration. A well—damped partition in similar circumstances will not vibrate.

Absorption
Sound absorption of a partition implies its capacity to dissipate incidental sound-energy. A sound absorption partition therefore reflects practically no sound energy. A partition with little or no absorption will reflect back to source nearly all the energy received.

Insulation
Acoustical insulation implies a partition’s capacity to stop the spread of incident sound. With little or no insulation, nearly all the energy received will be re-transmitted.
